Does any of this sound familiar
- Your renewal dates live in a spreadsheet that exactly one person maintains.
- You have found a certificate that expired months ago, and quietly wondered what that means for every reading taken since.
- Your last calibration meant shipping instruments overseas and working without them for weeks.
- You have a drawer of thermometers and no record of which of them have ever been checked.
- You were sent a certificate you could not fully read, and you filed it anyway.
- Nobody in the building can tell you what your instruments are traceable to.
Why the dates matter more than they look
An expired certificate does not only affect today. It reaches backwards.
Every reading taken by an instrument whose calibration had lapsed is a reading you cannot defend. Which is why a renewal date that slips by six weeks is not a six-week problem. It is a problem covering every record that instrument produced across those six weeks, and every decision anyone made using them.
The review
The Calibration and Certificate Review
An engineer comes to you, works through the instruments you actually hold, and tells you which of your certificates would stand up and which would not. You end the visit with one renewal schedule instead of a spreadsheet nobody else can read.
It costs nothing and it obliges you to nothing. If your certificates are in order, we will tell you that and there will be nothing to quote. That outcome is common enough that it is worth saying out loud.
- You send your instrument list, or simply the certificates you can put your hands on. A partial list is normal and is enough to start.
- An engineer comes to your site, at a time you pick, and brings the list back to the instruments themselves.
- Every instrument is identified and matched against the certificate that is supposed to cover it. Anything unmatched is written down.
- Each certificate is read against the four fields below, and you are told which would hold up under questioning and which would not.
- Every renewal date is put onto one schedule, so the dates stop living in one person's spreadsheet.
- You are told which instruments can be handled on site and which have to come into the laboratory, with pricing, in writing.
The 4 fields an auditor reads
The instrument the certificate is actually about
A certificate is evidence only if it names one instrument by a unique serial or asset number, and that number matches the instrument in front of you. A document that names a model rather than a unit proves nothing about the unit that produced your records.
What the measurement is traceable to, stated on the certificate itself
An unbroken chain to a national or international measurement standard, written on the document. Not described in an email from the supplier, not implied by a logo. If the certificate does not state it, an auditor has no reason to accept it.
The measurement uncertainty quoted against it
Every measurement carries one. It belongs on the certificate, and it has to be tighter than the tolerance you are judging your storage against. Most sites hold both numbers and have never put them side by side.
The as-found reading, taken before anything was adjusted
A pass tells you about the instrument today. The as-found reading tells you whether it had been drifting beforehand, and therefore whether the records it produced over the previous months are still defensible. It is the field that decides how far backwards a problem reaches.

Questions we get asked
What does the review cost?
Nothing. An engineer's time on site and a written summary afterwards. If it leads to calibration work, that is quoted separately and you are free to decline it.
How long does it take?
It depends on how many instruments you hold and how scattered the paperwork is. Tell us roughly how many and we will tell you how long to set aside, rather than print a number here that would not apply to you.
Do our instruments leave the site on the day?
No. A review is a review. Nothing is taken away unless you later ask us to calibrate it and you have agreed the quote.
Are you accredited?
Asia GMP is ISO 9001 certified by SOCOTEC Certification International under UKAS Management Systems 0063. That is quality management certification, and it is not the same thing as laboratory accreditation for a specific measurement. If accreditation scope matters for your application, ask us about that measurement directly and we will answer it plainly rather than let a badge imply something it does not cover.
We already use another calibration supplier.
Then the review tells you whether their certificates are doing what you are paying for. Plenty of sites go through this and stay exactly where they are. We would rather you knew either way.
What do you actually calibrate?
Temperature and humidity. Sensors, probes, thermometers, thermocouples, RTDs and data loggers. Not pressure, weighing or electrical instruments, and we will say so rather than take the work.
